Overview

DOSIJ, a well-established brand in the West Coast medical cannabis industry, needed a website to showcase its federally compliant hemp-derived products. Despite a decade of success, they lacked an online presence. We were tasked with designing and developing their first website: a visually compelling, high-performing BigCommerce website that streamlined the purchasing process while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Problem

DOSIJ faced several challenges in launching its website, primarily due to regulatory restrictions from varying state shipping laws, requiring a system to navigate these complexities. Platform selection was also crucial, as the client needed support for CBD-friendly payment providers and efficient order and inventory management.

Beyond regulatory and technical hurdles, the client aimed to create a distinctive shopping experience. This included a single-page checkout, mobile optimization, and fast-loading pages to boost conversions. Educating customers about Delta-9 and THC required a balance of informative content and a clean design. The client also preferred a unique navigation structure with direct links to product pages, bypassing traditional category pages for a smoother experience.

Branding-wise, DOSIJ wanted a visually appealing website but felt their current packaging and design lacked cohesiveness. With no plans for a physical store, the online platform had to serve as the primary sales channel while also supporting wholesale inquiries and pop-up events.

Solution

Web Design and Development

To create a seamless ecommerce experience, we customized the Beautiful Furniture theme for DOSIJ’s branding, developing a tailored BigCommerce website. To ensure regulatory compliance, an Elfsight Age Verification widget was added, requiring visitors to confirm they were 21+ before accessing the site. Shipping logistics were streamlined using Endicia, automating USPS-compliant labels and real-time address validation to reduce undeliverable orders.

To strengthen brand messaging and customer education, the homepage emphasized key differentiators like in-house manufacturing, proprietary recipes, vegan gummies, and medical-grade production standards. Informative banners and product descriptions were strategically placed to educate without overwhelming customers. A product image hover effect showcased multiple views, while the checkout process was optimized with a single-page, mobile-friendly layout to boost conversions.

For payment processing, the NMI Payment Gateway supported credit card transactions for CBD and hemp products, and ChargeBee was set up for subscription-based purchases. Additional solutions like Recharge and Sticky.io were recommended for future integration. Wholesale inquiries were simplified via a custom Jotform, enabling partners to upload necessary documents during the application process.

Web Development Retainer

Impressed with our work, the client signed a retainer, allowing us to refine their brand further. This included enhancing packaging for existing products and creating fresh, cohesive designs for their new Delta-8, Delta-9, and CBD lines. We delivered high-quality AI files, ensuring compliance with industry standards and including clear supplement facts and necessary warnings.
